Lots of people think that cat neutering is an unkind act toward cats that is not true those involved in this act know what they want and the benefit they stand to gain from neutering their felines.
What is cat neutering?
This is a process carried out by the vet in which the hormone in the sex organ which is responsible for reproduction in cats is removed hence such felines can not give birth to its kind, it can be done for both the male feline and the female felines.
In the male cat,, neutering is known as castration, while in the female cats it is called spaying. In the case of the male cat, castration is a procedure whereby the testis and the spermatic cord in the male organ are removed, this is done by making a small cut or opening in the scrotum of the male felines, while under the influences of anaesthetic.
While spaying is also a form of neutering in female cats, this is done with an opening in the belly of the female cat and the ovaries, uterus and the fallopian tubs all of these are completely removed also it is done while the female cat is on the anaesthetic.
Note for such an operation to be successful it has to be carried out by a veterinary expert and a day before such surgery is to be done precisely 24 hours before the surgery, the cat should not be fed it is done on empty stomach also after the surgery it takes about a day for the male cat to recuperate while about two to three days for the female feline
Advantages of neutering your cats
When the male cat gets to the stage of maturity this is usually between 6 to 9 months old he starts exhibiting some sexual behaviour such as spaying around the house.
If it is a home cat, and outside the compound it means that he urinates around the house thus claiming his territories thereby warding off other male cats and informing female cats of his presence, thus such urine is unhygienic to humans the smell or odour from the urine is very irritating all of this is prevented by castrating your male kitties
It helps in preventing unwanted mating and also the activities of the male cat are controlled, he cannot be in the heat anymore thus wondering outside looking for female felines is prevented, apparently spayed feminine cats have no hormonal push to mate and be likely to be more loving pets
Neutered cats are more healthy and are less likely to be involved in any form of wrestle with other cats which can result to wound and scratches all of these are avoided.
Also,, it has been discovered that neutered kitties live longer than those that are not neutered, they are less prone to cancer infection and have a high body immune system.
Disadvantages of neutering
One of the main disadvantages is that they cannot give birth to their kind thus it could lead to the extinction of some special breed of cats.
Since they no longer use their energy for mating thus they gain more weight which will affect their movement and can lead to cat obesity.
